Midtown K-12 News
Midtown K-12 News is a USFSP Neighborhood News Bureau program to improve media and journalism education in South St. Petersburg. USFSP NNB students work with local teachers and programs to develop curriculum, enhance student learning, provide hands-on training, develop experiential learning and field trip opportunities and much more.
NNB students work as interns or volunteers with one or more programs providing assistance to the teachers and media managers. Our NNB students work in the classrooms and newsrooms on a weekly basis and report back to our K-12 liaison and to the NNB faculty supervisor.

Starting in the spring of 2017, USFSP faculty and students engaged in community journalism research will be sharing their publications on this page. We are also compiling hundreds of resources to help journalists and community members to report on their own communities. Below, you can find a list of resources by topic. Where are the voices of Midtown in the Tropicana Field redevelopment?
“Even though the construction of Tropicana Field did, in some ways, bring new life to the city according to some, the stadium was a catalyst for a lot of the rebirth of downtown St. Petersburg, but to many in Midtown it remains a point of contention.”

Midtown Plaza struggles to stay in business
“Going grocery shopping for the week is a chore within itself. Without any means of transportation, that errand often becomes an all-day affair. This situation is the reality for many Midtown residents, and as it stands, their fate rests in the hands of the City of St. Petersburg, and what will become of Tangerine Plaza, or as it is now known, the Midtown Plaza.”
