About us:
NNBNews.com is a hyper-local news platform showcasing the work of senior-level undergraduate students in the Neighborhood News Bureau community journalism program at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg. Nestled in the vibrant heart of downtown St. Petersburg, the program is passionate about telling the stories that matter to the community. Students are the driving force behind NNB, and they bring to life the issues, events, and people that define not only Pinellas and neighboring counties but also much of the greater Tampa Bay region.
The student reporters are part of the Department of Journalism and Digital Communication at USF St. Petersburg and work under the supervision of a faculty member.
Our mission:
NNB operates as a real-world newsroom, fostering a hands-on journalism experience for roughly 20 students over the course of 16 weeks each semester. We believe in the power of local storytelling to create positive change and to bring awareness to the challenges and triumphs of the Tampa Bay region. NNB student reporters intricately cover the community and culture in our area by having weekly discussions related to community cultural literacy as they do their part in supporting local storytelling. We strive for publication in various outlets, including the campus newspaper, The Crow’s Nest, the Tampa Bay Times, and local professional publications. These often provide the first outlets for students’ published work as they enter the world of professional journalism.
NNB invites news items, announcements of events, and story tips from residents, community organizations, local businesses, and any person or organization with relevant information for and/or about the people and communities of the Tampa Bay area.
